Aquila Thundergut Bass String Packaging

A look at packaging from the early months of the Thundergut strings

Contributed by Brock Frazier on June 11, 2013

There has been a small variety of Ashbory instrument strings over the years. The first ones outside of the factory Fender silicone strings to pass the audition to be carried by Large Sound were the Aquila Thundergut Bass Ukulele strings. In early 2012, I received some evaluation sets in plain packaging (top pouch in the pictures). They passed the audition. Here was my email back to Mimmo Peruffo at Aquila:

Hello,

Yes, I have put the strings on my personal Ashbory and am very pleased.
These are the first aftermarket strings I have thought are worthy of being
carried by Large Sound. Please let me know pricing and availability.

Thank you.

The first batch came in larger boxes (bottom right in the pictures) and read simply "Bass Ukulele" for the instrument. When the second batch arrived, they were in smaller boxes and the instrument listing was changed to "Bass Ukulele / Ashbury Bass" (with the misspelling). The third batch (bottom left in the pictures) was in the same size of box as the second batch and was largely (or entirely) the same, other than the spelling of "Ashbory" had been corrected.

Here is the text from the back of the box on the most recent (as of May 11, 2013) string sets. Yes, these are from Italy.

THUNDERGUT® STRINGS

Thundergut® is a special very dense and elastic-plastic blend developed in our headquarter which grants better performances than common polyurethane and silicone rubber strings available in the market.

Thundergut® ensures quick and stable intonation.

Some more information

Thundergut® strings do not tresent excessive stretching during tuning. They can therefore be installed directly on the peg tuner avoiding the boring task of manual pre-stretching that has to be done for the common polyurethane or silicone rubber strings.

The Thundergut® string's surface is not particularily sticky as silicone rubber, these strings are not too slippery when touched and are not so easy to turn on itself when pressed on the keyboard as in the case of the polyurethane strings.

Thank you for choosing Thundergut ® strings:
You will be soon surprised by their tone, stability, and output power.
